Sudbury – It was a happy occasion among friends and athletes at Collège Boréal two days ago when varsity celebrated a season that was the full measure of their expectations. Many of the athletes were honoured at the annual Vipères athletic banquet which was held during the evening at Collège Boréal’s main campus.
No one can forget Valérie Breen’s outstanding year. A native of Ottawa, she captured in Badminton the gold medal at the provincial college championships (OCAA). This Sports and Recreation Management student was named Female Athlete of the Year for her dedication, leadership and exceptional performance in both badminton and volleyball. A defensive specialist, Valérie Breen was ranked third best player in the Eastern Ontario division for digs.
On the men’s side, Robert Gignac was named Male Athlete of the Year. From Penetanguishene, this Electrical Engineering Technician student distinguished himself as captain of the men’s volleyball team. An excellent defender, Robert Gignac was ranked 2nd best blocker in the OCAA Eastern division.
