Sudbury – In a festive and congenial atmosphere, the first Annual Frog Race was held this afternoon on the pond in front of Collège Boréal. This event is sponsored by Club Richelieu Les Patriotes de Sudbury, and proceeds of the ticket sales will be donated to the Fondation du Collège Boréal, in order to create bursaries for students in need.

The President of Club Richelieu Les Patriotes, Regent Dupuis, and the Chair of the Board of the Fondation du Collège Boréal, Stéphan Plante are waiting to start th race.

A total of 1,442 rubber frogs were bought to take part in the race. This event raised more than $72,000, half of this amount being matched through the Ontario Trust for Student Support.

Recognizing the originality of this initiative, the President of Collège Boréal, Denis Hubert-Dutrisac, acknowledges its significance for students: “We are grateful to Club Richelieu Les Patriotes for leading this fundraising event that will benefit our students in need of financial support. Such generous donations inspire our students to make the effort to pursue their training and contribute in their turn to the well-being of our community”.

On the other hand, Stéphan Plante, Chair of the Board of the Fondation du Collège Boréal, is truly pleased with the results of this first contest: “It is essential that we continue to increase our scholarship fund, which serves to provide financial support for Boréal students. It is worth mentioning that during the last academic year, close to $1 million has been distributed in bursaries and other means of financial assistance to students”.

When purchasing a ticket, participants had the chance to win one of three significant prizes. The winners are: Gil Pitre from Garson with $5,000 in cash; 2) Dixon Electric from Timmins will be receiving a home theatre system (including 46” LCD screen, Samsung Blu-ray player, and high definition sound system; 3) Carole Denis, a student from Collège Boréal’s campus in Sudbury is the winner of a Stainless steel barbecue (Blue Ember Fiesta BBQ).
