Sudbury – On the occasion of its 15th anniversary, Collège Boréal’s Hearst campus will be closing out the 2009-2010 academic year having had 55 full-time students, its largest student group since 1998-1999.
On the eve of the eight graduation ceremonies taking place this year at Collège Boréal, the first of which is in Hearst on May 18th, Collège Boréal’s Academic Vice-President, Daniel Giroux, attributes this success to the work of a dedicated team of individuals who are committed, day after day, to the development of their region: “I particularly want to congratulate the staff at our Hearst campus for their competence and energy. Because of you, the talents of our students from Northern Ontario can be fully expressed.”
Within the scope of activities meant to promote the 14 programs offered at this campus, exists the notable ‘Impact Boréal’ initiative which will see some 170 grades 7 and 8 students from Hearst, Hornpayne and Mattice participating.
Innovation is equally present at the Collège Boréal Hearst campus as the students enrolled in the new Carpenter – Joiner program are currently building a sauna valued at $7,000. Community members will soon be invited to purchase tickets for the modest sum of $10 for the draw which will be held on June 25th. All the profits from this initiative will be invested in the bursary fund destined for students at the Hearst campus. “Promoting knowledge and a vibrant culture” This is Collège Boréal’s vision, a French-language institution of postsecondary and skills training, established in 1995, which contributes to the growth and development of communities in Northern and Central-South-western Ontario. Having attained the highest graduation rate for the last 8 years and, for the 7th time in 11 years, the highest graduate satisfaction rate among the 24 community colleges in Ontario, Collège Boréal encourages the values of humanism, excellence and inclusion as well as an active awareness of environmental issues that affect our society. Collège Boréal is the first education sector representative officially designated by the government of Ontario under the French Language Services Act.
