Sudbury - The founder of the Montréal Insectarium, notable public speaker, motivator and internationally renowned entomologist, Georges Brossard, will be in Sudbury from June 8 through to June 10 for a series of activities which are offered free to the public. The inspiration for the film The Blue Butterfly (“Le papillon bleu”) by Lea Pool, Mr. Brossard is also the originator of the series Insectia, for which he is the narrator. This series is being viewed in 161 countries throughout the world.
“As part of Collège Boréal's 15th anniversary celebrations, the College is presenting these free activities – featuring such a well-known science communicator and motivator - as a gift to the Sudbury community,” said the President of Collège Boréal, Denis Hubert.
Brossard will be the keynote speaker at Collège Boréal's next staff meeting. Thanks to a number of partnerships, the general public as well as elementary students from all four Sudbury area school boards will have an opportunity to hear and speak with this passionate humanist and communicator. Tuesday, June 8: Mr. Brossard will make two presentations to more than 400 grades 5 and 6 students from the four regional school boards. These presentations are part of the City of Greater Sudbury’s Forum on Biodiversity, through which the city will be providing transportation for the students. Wednesday, June 9: The entire community will be invited to hear Mr. Brossard's conference in French entitled “L’écologie d’une planète : Les insectes et leur valeur” (The Ecology of a Planet: Insects and Their Value). Thanks to the generous support from the City of Greater Sudbury and Science North, this free presentation will take place in the Vale Inco Cavern at Science North beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
Lastly, on Thursday, June 10, Mr. Brossard will be the keynote speaker at a breakfast conference for members of EarthCare Sudbury. Additional information will soon be available on the College's web site: www.borealc.on.ca This series of activities is part of College Boréal's 15th anniversary celebrations, which included a free concert in March featuring the Franco-Ontarian music group “Swing”, attended by more than 500 participants. “Promoting knowledge and a vibrant culture” This is Collège Boréal’s vision, a French-language institution of postsecondary and skills training, established in 1995, which contributes to the growth and development of communities in Northern and Central-South-western Ontario. Having attained the highest graduation rate for the last 8 years and, for the 7th time in 11 years, the highest graduate satisfaction rate among the 24 community colleges in Ontario, Collège Boréal encourages the values of humanism, excellence and inclusion as well as an active awareness of environmental issues that affect our society. Collège Boréal is the first education sector representative officially designated by the government of Ontario under the French Language Services Act.
